AKC Additional Certification Programs
AKC Urban Canine Good Citizen (CGCU):
We are accredited by the American Kennel Club to evaluate dogs to receive the AKC Urban Canine Good Citizen Certificate. The title is awarded after the successful completion of ten specific training exercises, evaluated, and approved in the presence of a certified AKC evaluator. As a certified AKC CGC evaluator, I am certified to perform this function. Your dog must have the AKC CGC Certificate to be allowed to take the test. Besides that, the test must be performed in an urban area. Below is a summary of the specific tasks your dog must perform: *
- Enter and exit doorways of public buildings without pulling.
- Walk through a crowd on a busy, urban sidewalk.
- Maintain appropriate reactions to normal and customary city distractions.
- Properly cross the street at a corner (i.e. crosswalk).
- Pay no attention to food or other distractions on the sidewalk.
- Behave when a person approaches on the sidewalk and pets the dog.
- Walk while under control inside a public building and remain in a down/stay for three minutes.
- Transverse stairs, steps, or an elevator while behaving properly.
- Potty trained.
- Demonstrate that he can behave while traveling in a car, cab, or public transportation.

AKC Community Canine (CGCA):
We are accredited by the AKC to evaluate dogs to receive the AKC Community Canine Certificate. The title is awarded after completion of ten specific training exercises, evaluated, and approved in the presence of a certified AKC evaluator. As a certified AKC CGC evaluator, I am certified to perform this function. These exercises should be performed in “real life situations”. Your dog must have the AKC CGC to be allowed to take the test. Below is a summary of the specific tasks your dog must perform: *
- The dog stands, sits, or lies down and waits at the command of his owner.
- Dog calmly walks on a loose leash in a neutral environment.
- Dog calmly walks through a crowd.
- Dog walks past a distraction without displaying inappropriate behavior.
- Dog must be able to sit/stay while in a small group.
- Dog remains calm and respectful while an individual approaches and pets him. The person will be carrying an object.
- Dog can perform “Leave it”.
- Owner can walk away from dog, pick up object, and return to dog while dog remains calm and in place.
- Dog can perform recall with distractions.
- Dog and owner can pass through doorway while dog remains calm and focused.
